hello,
i needed so help and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
i am arriving to the santiago airport and need to go to santo domingo. when i arrive i was told i should take a taxi to the terra bus station and then go take the bus directly to the bus station in santo domingo and then a taxi to the hotel. could you tell me is what i should do?

what is the cost of the taxi from the airport to the bus station ? and what is the time/distance to the bus station

what is the cost of the bus ride to santo domingo and the time /distance to arrive?

what would be the cost from santo domingo bus station and the time to the hotel. i am staying at the jaragua on george washington ave

what would be the cost of hiring a taxi in santiago to having him drive directly to santo domingo?
I know enough spanish to hold my own but this is my first trip and didnt want to be taken over , i currently live in the turks & caicos islands.

thank you
wayne

As Terra Bus went out of business years ago you’ll need a different Bus co. Caribe Tours or Metro ST. The taxi rate from STI to the Bus station is US. $20. The Bus ticket from Santiago to Sto. Dgo. Is RD. $ 280. Plus the taxi from the bus station to Hotel Jaragua is RD. $ 200.

Just in case you want to arrange your pick up with a local taxi driver this is my friend Johan’s Email johan-4220@hotmail.com
He doesn’t speak English but he drives a nice car and he is a reliable guy. I’d recommended Him two weeks ago to do the same ride for one of my friend from NY and the rate was RD $ 3000.

thanks for the info guys. I see where the price for the first taxi to caribe tours was given in US dollars and the rest was in pesos, am i to assume that the taxis want US money or was that to just let me know what it is in US money. where's the best place to exchange money when i arrive? i am using an exchange rate of 34 to 1 is that accurate?

also what time time frame would i be looking at to get the bus station and then to SD AND THEN TO THE JARAGUA?

THANKS for all the help

Attached is the Caribe tours schedule : Horarios desde el interior ( schedules from the interior) Just scroll down and the left side will give you departure times from Santiago in the morning, and the right side afternoon. You can exchange a little money at the airport, then wait until you arrive in Santo Domingo to exchange the rest.

Airplane to door: 30 minutes
Door to taxi: 5 minutes
Taxi to Metro or Caribe Tours Santiago (Calle Maimon) 20 minutes (RD$450 pesos +tip)
Wait for Bus??? WTFK?? Max 1 hour
Bus to Sto Dgo: 2 hours RD$280 or so
Taxi to hotel (Jaragua) 20 minutes, depending on traffic ( RD$150 -$200 depending)
VERSUS:
Get in touch with JJ's friend, pay the three grand and you are at your hotel in less than 1:30 hours +/- 15 minutes!

Good luck...

HI,
I wanted to thank everyone for the info. I arrived back today from my trip. The girl i went to visit got her uncle to pick me up and she went for the ride. it cost me $50US each way. it was better not only for the time(2hrs) but after having to pay for 5 one way trips (2 mine and 3 for her) it was a no brainer.
I will say the SD drivers are crazy!!! I thing i was disappointed with was the way people would look at my friend when she was with me and i could tell they viewed her as a querro and me as her mark! it made both of us feel like we were doing something wrong being together. at the end of the day she asked if she could use my cell to call her child and because i was roaming and costing a fortune i give her 100pesos to get a phone card which was cheaper for me and she got more value , we were across the street from a market and the workers saw me pull out the 100 and i kept walking and iwhen she went in they told her it would be 120 for the card! that was their first mistake because she opened a can of whoop ass on them for trying to stick it to me that if i didnt go back to calm her down it had the makings of an international incident! The amount of hustle and scams that goes on amazes me. with that being said it was an enjoyable trip and i will go back again. my friend lives in Haina and we meet a few years ago while she was working the turks island where i currently live.
Thanks again
Wayne
