We're planning a holiday to Cuba in a few months, but I have a few questions that I can't seem to get straight answers for. Has anyone been to Cuba from SD or do they have any experience of the following queries please...?

- I want direct flights from SD to Havana but the Cubana Air website won't allow me to check availability / prices / book online. Has anyone purchased tickets direct with Cubana Air (via the website or the telephone) or do we need to use a travel agent, if so can anyone recommend one...?

- I am confused about which currency to take. Apparently exchanging USD incurrs additional fees so GBP or Euros are recommended to exchange. But are USD accepted as cash payment in Havana & te rest of Cuba, in order to avoid any need to exchange currency...?

Thanks for any advice / experience that can be offered.

take canadian dollars with you. They are cheaper to buy in DR and they have more value in cuba vs. american dollars.

Hey...You may book Cubana Airline Tickets By calling their Santo Domingo Office (809) 227-2040/2041/2042
a Travel Agency like
The Home of Nash Travel
Colonial Tour and Travel: Incoming Tour Operator Dominican Republic
and Online (as long as you dont use a Credit Card issued by USA Bank or affiliate)
Keep in Mind Flights between Santo Domingo and Havana operate Only on Thursdays and Sundays and Rountrip cost is around $ 450usd return

For Cuba the Best Currency would be Canadian Dollars or Euros as they are both easily exhchanged currencies in Cuba...US dollars will be charged an extra commision of 10% to be exchanged.US Dollars are accepted at Most Tourist Places but will occur the 10% penalty...so Yes you can easily use them but why waste extra money doing so.

Hope it answers your questions...any more questions feel free to ask
Good Luck!

If you bring a credit card that is not with an American bank you can use that at the airport when you arrive at ATM machines or go to a bank and take out Cuban Cash the CUC or Peso convertible as they are also called. They are worth more than the USD. On these transactions I believe they dont charge the 10% penalty. I am almost certain that it is only when you change cash that the penalty applies.
