Me and my wife went to Punta Can specifically in the area you are asking about, Melia Bavaro resort through Apple Vacations. No they actually don't have very good scuba diving in that area because right off shore from the Punta Cana side the water is riddled with coral reef barriers. This is what we were told, but when we went out on a jet ski we saw it for ourselve not to mention the fact that the jet ski renters warned us that if we damaged the jet skis on the reefs we would have to pay for it. Because of the barrier reef, animals don't really make their way around Punta Cana so if you go scuba diving (which Melia Bavarro resort has) you won't get to see anything interesting. Sorry !!!!!!
