Hello,

I am looking for a short-to-long-term job in Santo Domingo, beginning probably in February. My father has a house in La Zona Colonial so I'm okay as far as that goes. I am also not trying to make a Dominican's salary, and this is wherein the problem lies. I want to make anywhere from USD $2000-$2500 per month (even if I need an on-the-books and off-the-books combo in order to achieve this). I have a BA in English and my Spanish is basically native.

Please let me know what can be found. Any kind of info. including links is appreciated. Just don't have me working a cash register at La Sirena. Thanks.

What are your skills, qualifications, experience? Most importantly, connections?

You have an MBA from Wharton? A PhD from Carnegie Mellon? An MBA from Harvard?

Are you nuts?

Please get real. There are no jobs like that available for just anyone that comes into town and says: "Trallah!! Here I am. Hire me!"

Those are salaries for executives with experience, and more important, connections.

Unless you have a unique skill set, I do not think, in all seriousness, that you w ill find anything.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll just have to vacation there and see if I can rent out a room or two in my house to tourists. Anyone else have a really nice house in DR and tried this before?

I was making that, but the Canadian govt was paying me. Too bad I couldn't extend the contract. Life was good. Unless you get on something that is commission based, and we're talking a lot of commission, it's pretty tough. That, or you're working 70hrs a week.

SugoyaChan, listen to Hillbilly.

On another note, I have been told that the Sun Village Resort in Puerto Plata is looking for a manager. Can't remember what type of manager, but you need over 10 years experience.

Oh yes, almost forgot. The pay is US$65,000 with extra perks too.

Anyone who has the qualifications can contact the resort for more info., but don't waste their time if you don't have the qualifications.

You can do to South Korea or Japan, where ESL teachers get 2,000 dollars a month plus free rent.

I did that for some time, very nice deal also :)

But be ready to work your butt off.
