I am going to DR this weekend. A poor teen asked me to bring him a pair of sneakers, which I am happy to do. He said he takes size 6.

This seems so small. Is it posssible for a Dominican teen to wear size 6 ??

sizes 6 sounds kind of small for a Dominican teen, usually a teen will be wearing around 10 - 12 depending on his high weight.

10 to 12????

..............not unless he's a GIANT in my opinion..........

Most of the Dominican's that I know and have worked for me have always been in the area of 8 to 9.5.............

....i've bought many a pair of shoes in 13 years for people here and NEVER has it been a 10 or over.........

When I was 14 my shoe size was a 12, now it?s a 17.

And I'm a size 15....where are you buying shoes in the DR? As a matter of fact where are you buying clothes period here...I walked into a couple of clothing stores and heard the girls mumble "Grandote".....(they were wide-eyed when I told them my shoe size)

Shirts in XXL are small XXs in the DR as well....

On buying clothes for kids...I just started taking them (and my gal pal) to the store....she goes in with them and buys them what they need....I go to the closest place that sells beer......and I wait for them.....

(Dillards Big and Tall sells a "Dockers knockoff" pair of slacks....made in the DR....try to find them there!)

My 4th time doing this....

;) I have been to the DR 7 times now and I love it and it's people. For the past 4 trips, I have polled my family, friends and co-workers to save their slightly used sneakers and shoes for me.

I pack up a military style duffle bag with 15 - 20 pairs of sneakers/shoes and I personnaly distribute them to the local population in the poor neighborhoods of Santo Domingo (Barios).

It is really amazing to see the smiles and their faces light up when a young person gets a pair of shoes.

I challenge everyone who is going to DR on vacation to bring something really nice like sneakers or summer clothing items to the poor in the DR.

I'm headed back to DR in early February and I already have 2 big bags packed with shoes, sneakers, sandals, shorts, t-shirts and more!

I always do that, my son buys lots of sneakers and the ones that are still ok to give away I take and the guys and kids just love them. I go back like every 2 years and they are still using those sneakers, so for those people who are concern about them not wanting used shoes, believe me you'll find people who would take them, some won't because they are too proud to accept used stuff but many do.

I do exactly the same type of thing, but I buy new clothes for them.

I watch the sales all year long and when I see something on sale, i buy a few of them. By the time I travel, I have at least one or 2 suitcases full of new clothes to give to the poor.

U outta see what is in my suitcase for my trip Saturday. There are going to be some VERY VERY happy children/teens.

We always take lots of used and new shoes. Usually mens size 7,8, 9 and 12. Womens size 6 and 7. We have no problem finding people that gladly take them.

I knew this thread about big feet would turn naughty, hahahaha.
Anyway Dominicans tend to have small feet in general
