I have looked up the translation for "Snack" and none of the responces are a word that is used here in the DR.
I also want to find out what pretzels are called here.

Snack, e.g. what children take to school to eat mid-morning, is "merienda". It also means afternoon tea. In more formal settings, like a conference or a work meeting, you might say "refrigerio".

Pretzels would be pretzels as there is no Dominican equivalent that I can think of.

That's quite a good suggestion, BabyBlu, though "picadera" usually means buffet/a selection of snacks

Lots of variations

I think merienda is the most generic and common word in the Spanish-speaking world. I can't think of anything else that I have heard in the DR.

For those who are into the academic acquisition of language combined with the practical in text books you will see tentempi? s. m as well. It's quite colloquial (Mexican) but common because there is a broad base of Mexican speakers thus Mexican vocabulary is regional in many areas.

In Colombia, you will see pasabocas. Just go down the isle of any grocery store.

Can you post the translations of the word "Snack" in Spanish that you found? For the fun of it I googled "Snack in Spanish" and the first word that showed up was "La Merienda", which is the word use in the DR for "Snack".
