Gilbert Bigio is the richest person in Haiti and possibly the entire island. He is pne of the Haitians sanctioned by Canada for suppose financing of the criminal gangs in Haiti. Some of his major investments in the DR are the Texaco gas stations (if he is really financing Haitian gangs with the money provided by his businesses, buying gasoline qt any Texaco gas station in the DR is NOT a good idea).

They are also scrutinizing Pablo Portes who works in the Dominican government consulting the President of the DE, is the CEO of GB Energy (another company that belongs to the Haitian magnate, in fact GB are his initials) in the DR.

The Dominican offices of GB Energy and Texaco are in this building in SD.

Helping finance the mess currently affecting Haiti? According to sone reports, the gangs have taken control of most of Port-au-Prince.

I wonder how long it will take for a small group of protestors to gather in front of this building.

Could the DR not take sanctions against Bigio and re-organize Texaco in the DR?

people with big money are always a target and demonized. It is nothing new. Poor people love to hate the rich. The more success one achieves, the more disdain is directed towards them by the have nots.

You think that's why he's being "demonized"? Nothing to do with financing gangs in Haiti?

of course, he has armed security. The man is a billionaire in a country with zero stability. Do you think his security team is going to secure his interests with pepper spray and feathers. Since religion is not allowed let's just say his ethnicity also makes him a target as well.

Supposedly, he is living mostly in Miami.

It really is like an Ian Fleming James Bond plot. Here we have a very rich man who has gangs of thugs that kill anyone if they get in his way and he can control his illegal trades because everyone is so scared of him . And then suddenly , and this part has yet to happen, along comes an excellent secret agent who puts three bullets in his head and his main warehouse is blown up and suddenly everyone runs for cover because there is no money for guns or payments to employees. Will the secret agent be from MI6 or from the CIA or from the French Secret Service DGSE. Maybe the Russians or Koreans will kill him with a smidgeon of poison gas. I hope there is a film of it all very soon .

except that he is a legitimate businessman involved in many industries that employ thousands, putting food on the table of countless families. Yes, he is going to purchase arms for his security teams. It sounds sexier in the papers to call them armed thugs.

I always say if I had as big as an investment that he has in Haiti, I'd have a bunch of armed guards as well.

Back in the late 70's when I'd go there for work we stayed in a walled in villa with a group of armed guards and we had Uzi's in the vehicle when we travelled around.

Just like Pablo Escobar was in Medellin ..very popular with certain Colombians and with the Government until the USA said enough was enough . Bigio is now sanctioned by Canada and his name appears in the Panama papers . His good friend and President of some of Bigio companies, Pablo Portes is working with the current Dominican Government. A good read of the Canadian investigation into Bigio and his subsequent sanction gives an insight into his illegal operations. Why were these two not sanctioned when all the other Haitian crooks were ?? Money talks.

Bigio is a businessman, not a criminal drug dealer.
