Marriott Just Opened a New Luxury Resort in the Dominican Republic - Caribbean Journal
A new luxury resort has opened its doors in the Dominican Republic: Marriott International’s new Ocean Club, a Luxury Collection Resort.

That guy is a fool. The North Coast is popping! The new Marriott is booked solid at $550U.S a night with business travelers and conventioneers. All the super elegant restaurants are packed with spendy customers fighting for tables. The amphitheater is hosting Andrea Bocelli. Yup no more jerk chicken sandwiches and rice with beans in this town.Weren't we just hearing from a member who declared the north coast 'dead' ??
I am gonna guess you have never stayed in a Marriott property in the last 20 years, but hey, check in to that joint and report back. Instead of just commenting on web info. Maybe you can even secure a gig singing in the ultra lux piano bar. Dont forget to put a tip jar out.Oh My . Where is BIG to insist it isn't a Marriott and he can't use his points there. 😇
Well, your guess would be correct since I last stayed at a Marriott property at least several years over 20 years ago.I am gonna guess you have never stayed in a Marriott property in the last 20 years, but hey, check in to that joint and report back. you have not stayed at a Marriott in over 20 years yet have called them and you COULD have booked a room. My man you are a wealth of helpful info.Well, your guess would be correct since I last stayed at a Marriott property at least several years over 20 years ago.
I only stayed at them on expense account and I retired in 2003 and didn't have an expense account for travel purposes since around 2000.
What that has to do with the Marriott Ocean Club now being open for booking and your lack of ability to use your points there, I have no idea.
When I called them during our list "discussion" on this topic, I could have booked a room via Marriott at this very property in Sosua. I suppose you didn't believe that back then. But it is true.
My commenting on web info? You mean directly on a press release from Marriott and you call it inaccurate? Why? Oh well, I guess there is no convincing you.
Not sure why, you certainly provide no proof of your being "right" in this case. Just meaningless words based upon nothing but your opinion, it would seem.
I have never played for tips, but that is a good idea... Do they even have a piano?
Glad to help. Finally you can use your Marriott points in Sosua. You should be happy with the info. I called them because you promised to buy me a room if they are open. They are open and accepting reservations.you have not stayed at a Marriott in over 20 years yet have called them and you COULD have booked a room. My man you are a wealth of helpful info.
It’s a significant boost for the greater Puerto Plata area, according to Dominican Republic Tourism Minister David Collado, who was on hand for the inauguration ceremony.
Second paragraph suggests this is the first of three hotels which sounds vaguely familiar. Ritz Carlton anybody? Was that published today? The link says December 22, 2021.
The second which will actually be built is in Cabarete on the main beach. A Mariott W Club in a couple of years according to the new signage put up recently.Second paragraph suggests this is the first of three hotels which sounds vaguely familiar. Ritz Carlton anybody?
So the 3 hotels are actually about 1.5 hotels and I would bet the under 1.5.The second which will actually be built is in Cabarete on the main beach. A Mariott W Club in a couple of years according to the new signage put up recently.
The first of course is the one in Sosua that some claim still is not open. They live in an alternate reality apparently.
A much mocked Ritz Carlton Reserve was being started and blocked by the environmental ministry. Marriott didn't pay off the right people enough money and the ladrone mayors were no longer in charge of Cabarete or it probably would have been done already.
Man thanks for all the inside info. You say Marriott, a publicly traded company didn't "pay off" the right people, wow, that is some great inside info. You also say the Mayor's are thieves. That is some impressive inside information as well, I greatly appreciate it.The second which will actually be built is in Cabarete on the main beach. You do know that the former mayor of Cabarete was arrested (finally) and jailed, don't you? No inside information there. Three Million US dollars were stolen by him. Public knowledge and in the DR local news.Man thanks for all the inside info. You see 1.5? Not good at math I guess. So the 3 hotels are actually about 1.5 hotels and I would bet the under 1.5.
I wouldn't write off the Ritz Carlton Reserve just yet. A new Medio Ambiente minister and a revised site plan to mitigate environmental impacts and things could change. Just look at what Lifestyles got away with.A much mocked Ritz Carlton Reserve was being started and blocked by the environmental ministry. I would say there would be a chance if the PLD were in charge in Santo Domingo..I wouldn't write off the Ritz Carlton Reserve just yet. A new Medio Ambiente minister and a revised site plan to mitigate environmental impacts and things could change. Just look at what Lifestyles got away with.
Sometimes all that is needed is a change of name and brand, mostly psychological in nature. That's the way of business. The Hard Rock Resort in Bávaro was built as a Moon Resort. The Mexican owners were not happy with assistance. The place was converted to the Hard Rock and haven't seen back ever since. What is now the Marriott in Sosua:
