According to the investigation cited by the Spanish media El País, a mafia boss of a major money laundering network had traveled several times to the Dominican Republic. Indeed, he was captured in Spain after returning from Santo Domingo. El Pais reported on the “beastly” size of the operation.

A probe by the Central Unit of Economic and Fiscal Crime (UDEF) of Spain’s National Police has revealed that the Dominican Republic was a key destination in an international money laundering network recently dismantled.

As reported by El País, this Chinese-origin mafia moved millions of euros in cash, using hundreds of “mules” to transport the money to different countries, including the Dominican Republic.

Spanish authorities described the organization as “beastly” due to its size and sophistication. The network operated like a “multinational” money laundering enterprise, offering its services to other criminal structures and charging commissions based on the illegality of the...

And what is the source of this "illegal" money?
Every Chinese business on the island. There are very few, if any, Chinese in China who thinks "Hmm, I think I'll open a business in the DR"

They're only scratching the surface on this one.

But, the money was going into the DR, not from Chinese in the DR out of the DR to launder it elsewhere.

So once again, the question, where did the Chinese get the money to send from Spain to the DR and why was it illegal?

Every Chinese store & pica pollo in DR is laundering money, that you can depend on.
China does not teach honesty in their country
A simple formula the Chinese have been using for decades, is as follows;

Each one of these Chinese owned businesses (pick a country) is a member of their local Chinese Business Association (think fees and dues) who in turn funnel money back to the main land.

It's a lot bigger than that. Everything those businesses buy to resell is purchased from a central source, also Chinese. There are some really giant Chinese warehouses here.
My female Chinese friend had to buy everything for her pica pollo from them. If she ran out, she'd have to wait for them to deliver more and get a butt reaming for running out.
No running to the supermarket to buy more chicken pieces.
It's all controlled from start to finish.

Here in Santiago they are everywhere. They've been rather clever. Dozens of what look to be vacant buildings have been outfiited with cameras and rows of shelves inside. It's not uncommon to see a tractor trailer pulling up in front late afternoon with a dozen or so Haitians to quickly unload them.

The Dominicans who helped the Chinese set up and run these (mafias?) monopolies are just as culpable in my opinion.

Thank you to the Spanish Government for going after these crooks!

You think with all the money they launder they could spare a little for decent haircuts and some fashionable clothes.
I have yet to see a Chinese person in DR that doesn't look like they slept on the beach.

Most live on next to nothing. Any money they make goes to paying their trip. Two different social classes.

Visit Bella Vista near McDonald's and you'll see many impeccably dressed.

Yes proving my point they don't seem to spend their money to clean themselves up.
I refuse to eat at their dirty pica pollo joints either.
Some years ago I recall a friend of mine telling me stories about when he worked part time as a 2nd job in an upscale Chinese restaurant in San Francisco. He told me they would reuse uneaten food for new orders that came back from customers. Not off their plates but from the Dim Sum trays.
Still it made me gag

Same here. We prefer Pluyer Pollo but will do one of the chinese places in a pinch. But never more than once a week.
