I was driving down the road from Cabarete towards Cabrera, where I live, and noticed a couple of new road signs outside of the main gate for Bahia Principe in Rio San Juan. I glanced at one of the signs and almost flew off the road because it made no sense to me. I quickly braked and pulled over to read it.

The new sign says "Residencial Puerta Nueva Samana". Hmmm. Here I am about 20 minutes west of Rio San Juan and someone has two huge signs proclaiming this to be the new door to Samana? Do they realize that Samana is easily another two hours east of here.

I mentioned it to my wife and she thinks someone at the sign company just got tired of lugging the signs down the road and put them up the next place they could (jejejeje ).

Seriously, it appears the Bahia Principe in Rio San Juan is no more and it now 'thinks' it is in Samana. I sure hope they don't advertise like that because it seems to be pretty misleading to me.

What can others tell me about this that I am missing??!?!?

That's funny. Years ago they used to advertise a vacation package to Juan Dolio as Santo Domingo.

There was a news report a month or two back that it had closed. Ironically, it was often marketed as a Puerto Plata hotel...maybe the new owners flipped a coin and decided on the other direction, as RSJ isn't really a known destination...

Here is a photo of the new sign. Notice how the Bahia Principe people seemed to know that they were in Rio San Juan. However the new people seem to feel they are in Samana. Hopefully the guests will be so polluted by the time they arrive that they never notice!
