So, as Santo Domingo keeps growing with more tapones everyday... so is Starbucks. Sourced from users in Twitter:

A new location next to Holiday Inn at Abraham Lincoln Ave.

And a new Starbucks in front of the old Super Pola (now Sirena Market) at Lope de Vega. This one used to be a Impuestos Internos office.

By the way, Café Santo Domingo has 20 locations nationwide. So far, Starbucks has 7 and with these 2, expands to 9 stores.

Could Starbucks dethrone Café Santo Domingo in the DR? Let's see how it goes.

The two Starbucks at Downtown Center and at Acropolis are both very nice. Cafe Santo Domingo need to improve their design a bit. It looks a bit old but the coffee is good.

I do not like the location of the one at the Holiday Inn (maybe good for the hotel guests). There is a lot of traffic over there (where isn't there...lol) already, just not a good location IMO.

The hotel guest and the people that work in all the office building around. Is the Canadian Embassy still at Torre Piantini? I bet many of those Canadians like the idea of a Starbucks close to their workplace. I bet that Starbucks will be delivering via motos.

Yes, I know. Why prefer Starbucks coffee when Dominican coffee is better (and stronger)? This world is full of weird things!

Yes, walking (probably the best way you're going to get there) for some would be convenient but try driving in that area. I did for years, and it was/is horrible.

You can get Starbucks delivered via motos by ordering off UberEATS or pedidosya.

I would never have Starbucks delivered. I don't see the point of that. I thought it was all about the location.

Probably..Cafe Santo Domingo uses imported coffee anyway. It's not coffee from DR... few years ago it was imported from Vietnam...now I have no idea.

Starbucks uses coffee from Colombia plus going to startbucks has more status than going to Cafe Santo Domingo. They get their coffee in starbucks and start taking photos with the cups and bake goods. Not the same in Cafe Santo Domingo.

This is from a few years ago:

"In a surprising development, the Dominican Coffee Confederation (Concafed) has announced that most of the coffee currently sold in the Dominican Republic is now imported, due to the collapse of domestic coffee production.

The secretary general of Concafed, Carlos Ramirez said that 70% of the 30,000 families that make a living off coffee growing are living in poverty, and of those, 24% in extreme poverty. From a peak production of 1,300,000 quintals or hundred weight (cwt), production is down to 250,000 cwt a year, with an estimated average yield of 10 to 15 lbs per tarea (1 tarea = 629 square meters).

He attributed the collapse of the coffee farms to the coffee rust virus and the lack of attention from the governmental agriculture authorities. He said coffee plantations need to be renovated, but the sector does not have funding or access to technical assistance. As a result, in recent years coffee production has significantly declined."

It would be a similar point as the drive-thru. Many people don’t care about the location (or are in a rush), they simply want their Starbucks coffee and the Starbucks cup that says Starbucks and has the logo so everybody knows they overpaid for their coffee.

I have never felt that way about Starbucks. I feel I pay for the location and sitting there. It's quite good as a type of Workspace. The Santo Domingo locations are really nice. Also I like them in Denmark. Maybe in other markets there are too many now so they can look a bit run down. McDonald's is different. I have used the drive thru on Av Sarasota/Churchill.

I have a little device that delivers my coffee when and how I want it.
You win the internet today!

I was going to drive to a mall somewhere and sit in a cafe (for the ambiance) and work on my computer, but I changed my mind and am now sitting in my underwear at my desk drinking my Lavazza coffee.

I'll try to calculate how much it cost me, but I know it's a lot less than any cafe, let alone Starbucks.

If anyone requests, I can take a picture of the baked goods on my table.

I definitely spend too much on coffee at coffee shops.

I can't believe how much people are willing to pay for a cup of Starbucks coffee. I drink Induban Gourmet that I grind fresh every morning. I estimate it costs me less than 20 pesos per cup and is as good as any I've ever had at Starbucks - what are not many.
