Why do you believe that HIV is not a heterosexual desiese? Because you don't want to give up your life style period, so it does not matter what the facts are, as long as you can close your eyes and click your heels and say "I wish it weren't so" a thousand times. I guess it halps to have some people feeding you stories too.

Lee, I have no intention to try to persuade your opinions otherwise. As I stated in an earlier post, this particular disease is something I know something about from an "inside the industry" perspective.
AIDS exists, and it is a nasty condition.
But it is not nearly as prevalent as some would want you to believe.
AIDS is the most political disease of our time, possibly ever. There are numerous well researched books that clearly make this case. The research dollar spent per diagnosis is higher than ANY disease or condition that has ever existed on this planet.
Anecdotally, go back to the mid-90's when many "authorities" were sounding the claxons about how it would wipe out not just gay men, but heterosexuals as well. Neither happened. Most gays changed their behaviors, and not just with condoms-the use of recreational drugs, some which significantly compromise the immune system, decreased and monogamous relationships increased. Hetersexual AIDS is still, to this day, practically non-existant. IV drug users are still a problem, but most of these people are whacked anyway-you will not educate someone who shoots heroine into their vein about a healthy lifestyle.
The Great Heterosexual AIDS Scourge never happened. Singles bars and swinger clubs are still thriving, and they "sell" heterosexual sex. And condom use, while rising, is still not used by all.
Statistics lie. The African issue was manufactured by the UN. To this day, not even 5% of AIDS cases are diagnosed by testing. Diseases that have always been a problem in Africa are now considered AIDS-tuberculosis, wasting syndrome, conditions from sanitary conditions, etc. have conveniently been classified as AIDS.
Why? As one AIDS activist told me (I sat on several Board of Directors of local and national AIDS groups): "We won't get more funding until we back the ambulance up to Joe and Molly Six-Pack's home in Keokuck Iowa".
Pharmaceutical companies have a stake in fear-mongering, too. AIDS is big business, and public funding for "orphan" drug research can have spin-offs for profitable non-AIDS/retroviral drugs.
AIDS is Politically Correct. In the states, one party gets considerable campaign contributions by scare-mongering, and soliciting contributions from AIDS-centric groups.
One prominent Infectious Disease physician-who sat on a board with me-in a moment of candor over some wine at dinner, told me: "If you don't shoot drugs, if you don't do unprotected anal sex, and you don't sex someone who does, you won't be seeing me."
This is not to say I advocate promiscuous behavior. Au Contraire. Use your head. Have a monogamous heterosexual relationship. If you can't, use condoms. Say No to Drugs. Stay away from poppers. Stay away from putas. And you'll be fine.
But use logic, and no fear-mongering.
