Here is a good list of stores and specialty shops in Spanish.

For those who are not fans of grammar this is quite easy. In most cases the suffix -ería is used to form the name of the store. The link also has some helpful shopping vocabulary.

Ayer fui a una panadería colombiana para comprar empanadas. Hacía mucho tiempo que no las comía. Así que fui a comprarlas y probar de nuevo ese sabor colombiano. La próxima vez que vaya voy a probar algún tipo de pan.

Por ejemplo, si desea vender "ferrets", puede abrir una ferretería.

(Sé que el "ferret" es hurone.)

Here are some general shopping terms and phrases that one can use and will hear in the Spanish-speaking world (not just the DR).

I have seen situations where a customer non Spanish-speaking is in a store in a Spanish-speaking country and no one in the store speaks English. I always help because I see the desperation on both sides.
