I am a LONG time lurker; like 5 or 6 year lurker, who has decided to take the plunge and dive in! I feel like I know many of you already, since I read your posts daily, so I felt like it was high time I introduced myself too.

I have strong family ties to the Bani area of the DR - as we had a cousin who worked with Scarboro Missions in the area in the aftermath of Hurricane David and beyond. And we are trying to support his vision ever since.

Plus, my husband is Dominican. Hasn't been an easy situation, but it's ours, and we're happy, so that's all that matters.

Coming from the east coast of Canada, and I hope to actually participate in convos now that I've finally introduced myself!

Welcome and look forward to participating instead of lurking, lol! I think we were all guilty of that to some extent before we joined :)

Thanks everyone! Sorry Criss! I'm not quite that far east to be a Newfoundlander. But, pretty close, I'm in Nova Scotia and we break out the long undies here too hahaha.

It's hard to break the pattern of just reading and moving on - as I noticed today. So I will try to jump in more.

Happy to be actively participating :)

Welcome to dr1. I lurked a long time too. I agree how newbies can get to know people from ancient posts. I miss this site when I am away for a few days. Then I check in my friends and see what's going on. This sight does offer valuable information. It has inspired me to branch out to other countries for longer trips. But there is nothing like a JetBlue nonstop lost weekend in SDQ. Don't know what I would do if I had to change planes in Miami.
