I've just come back from two weeks at the Talanquera. I can happily recommend it. The hotel was very clean, well maintained and the staff were pretty friendly and efficient. The layout of the hotel is varied, with some rooms in hotel type buildings and others in small groups of bungalows. They were all fine though. The rooms were average sized, clean, fairly basic, but had air conditioning that worked well and ok TV. They were cleaned every day by the maids.
The food was good, if a little bland and repetitive. (One tip, if you go to the Italian restaurant, don't order the shrimp. The portion is tiny and the price is huge!).
The pools were clean and large, and the beach was also well maintained. The music coming from the pools was fairly loud at times, which could be annoying if you were too close. The sea was good, but had a lot of dead corral which made walking in it painfull without shoes. It was also fairly shallow which made swimming difficult in places.
The other guests in the hotel were mainly British, German and French coulples, with a few families.
The town of Juan Dolio is very small, with just a couple of overpriced shops and one or two restaurants attatched to other hotels.
Overall though, I had a great time and it was a very relaxing holiday.
I hope I've been of some help!
