As far as the 27 Charcos goes, I cant tell you a rate but I will tell you it wont be cheap as this is not an insignificant distance you hope to travel. How would you feel to take the bus? You could take a guagua from Sosua into Puerto Plata to Javila Tours and then switch onto a bus there and ask the driver to let you off at the waterfalls.

This may add to your adventure;).

Well, I can't remember now how much they quoted me, but I called a few months ago for a customer who was interested in going to the waterfalls (from Cabarete) and it wasn't too expensive (actually at lot cheaper than for three of them taking a tour). I remember asking several times if that price included wait time, and the answer was always positive, wait time for as long as you need it. This was a quote from taxisosuacabarete. You may want to shoot them an email and ask for a quote.

Puerto Plata
Take a publico (shared taxi running along fixed route) or the San Juan-Pto Plata guagua (van type bus) to La Javilla in Puerto Plata. It will stop outside the Javilla Tours Bus Station. There catch the guagua (bus) towards Santiago. Ask the cobrador (fares collector) to drop you off at Damajagua. Both services are fast, frequent and very cheap. Total fare one way less than ?3 per person. Taxi would cost you maybe ?35 return (including wait time) so only worthwhile if you have companions to share.

If you plan on ascending the falls read up on other threads here regarding suitable gear to wear and safety issues.

Publicos and guaguas can get crowded so if you will be uncomfortable carrying your gear on your lap (and especially if you are a big guy) simply pay to use both "places" (in reality one single seat!) up front next to the driver. It will double your cost in fares but still work out a lot cheaper than a private taxi.

Other disadvantage is that you will have to walk from the main road to the entrance to the falls (about half mile) but if that is a problem for you then you won't get far up the falls.

* I have estimated prices in limey money for your convenience! :cheeky:

Be prepared for climbing the falls

Aside from getting transportation to the falls, I suggest being physically
prepared for this expedition. It is not an easy adventure and in fact can be
somewhat dangerous (except for the initial walk to the river). The climbing up from one waterfall to the next is quite rigorous and NOT for everybody. Definitely hire a guide when you get there or go with a group if you aren' t in great shape. It's a physically demanding experience.

I don't agree that it is dangerous at all. the guides are with you all the way. I am in my 40s and was by far the youngest person in my group. there were numerous senior citizens in my group , no worries.
As for transport. Why not just rent a car for 40 dollars and then you go where you want when you want at your own pace !

Good advice. A guide will be assigned to the group and they are excellent and very helpful.
