The tragic death of musician, singer, and songwriter Ruddy Perez has cast a gray cloud over the Dominican music scene. Roberto Antonio Perez Herrera (Ruddy) was 69 years old and had spent the last 40 years as a singer-songwriter of merengues.
He followed in the footsteps of the great Dominican musicians such as Luis Alberti, Wilfrido Vargas, and Johnny Ventura.
Strangely, it was an automobile accident that crushed his dreams of joining his brother in the Big Leagues but sent him in the direction of music stardom.
Diario Libre compiled a short list of his most famous songs. They can be found on YouTube quite easily. The most famous is perhaps “Volveré,” but most people will say that songs like Dame Veneno, El africano, Cuando estés con él, Enamorado de ella, Tu vas a volar, El perro ajeno, Penas, and Buscando tus besos are the Top Ten of this Dominican legendary performer.
