The difference between Tigres del Licey and Leones del Escogido?

I'm a new fan to baseball, and I've been following the New York Mets this year. I still want to learn as much baseball as I can, so I thought let's bring it to the homeland and seeing that the Dominican League has just started, this would be a perfect time.

I am all about rooting for your home team no matter how poorly they play. (I'm sure you got that impression the moment I said I supported the New York Mets, haha.)

My mother is from Los Minas, Santo Domingo. And my father is from Haina, but spent years in el trece... wherever that is. I'm sure it's still considered La Capital. As you can see I am wanting to root for a team who plays in the Capital, however I see that there are TWO teams that represent Santo Domingo.
Is there like a land barrier that separates the Licey fans from the Escogidos? For ex: Bronx are Yankees territories and Queens are the Mets.

PS. Anyone know any streams so I can keep up with the game? Thank you very much!

Also, I'm not trying to bandwagon on any team that's doing well. I usually like underdog teams. I know that Licey has a very rich history, but I also see that Escogido has been doing well recently.

No sure there ever was a barrier. The Escogido was founded initially by taking the better players from several teams, to try to compete with Licey, who then was much too strong for the others (hence their name, escogido=chosen).
People choose teams for unclear reasons...it isn't unusual to have in the same family fans of different teams (especiall in the capital)...The fact that both teams share the same stadium doesn't help matters. Fans don't pay too much attention to geography nationally (although Las Aguilas are almost certainly the most popular team in the Cibao region)...Both SD teams (especially Licey) have many fans throughout the country, if nothing else because other teams are much younger...

If you are looking for an underdog, choose the estrellas...San Pedro has produced lost of major leaguers, but its team has one of the least impressive records in Dominican baseball, even though it is a fairly old team.

If all else fail, flip a coin!

Thank You! I have this weird feeling where I HATE jumping on a team that is the most popular. If I go for a team, I need to grow to learn it, not just root for them.. However, I spoke to my dad about it, and asked him to help me choose. His first reaction was to yell at me and say, "WE ARE A FAMILY OF LICEY, YOU DON'T EVER ROOT FOR LOS ESCOGIDOS!!" He told me that was Trujillos team and what not. Haha. Guess I made my choice.

By the way, do you know any streams to watch the games, since i'm out in the state.

Having been here for awhile..you are either for "los rojos o azules". However the rivalry each team has with Aguilas is legendary. The best games are between Escogido and Licey or Aguilas against either Escogido or Licey.

Escogido and Licey have a strong (mostly historical) rivalry. This became less intense over the past few decades when Escogido fell in hard times (they have recovered the last few seasons).

Aguilas and Licey have a strong rivalry based on on-field results over the last several decades.

To my knowledge Escogido and Aguilas do NOT have a particularly intense rivalry. Of course each team and its fans wants to defeat the others....but that applies to all teams...Between Aguilas and Escogido there is nothing especially strong, AFAIK.
