President Luis Abinader has announced that his weekly press briefing, “La Semanal,” will be suspended for the remainder of December to accommodate the holiday season. The decision cancels the press conferences on 16, 23 and 30 December 2024. The Monday, 9 December briefing had already been canceled due to the President’s official visit to Qatar.
The press briefings are especially important because of the reticence of most key government officials to answer to press inquiries.
The government’s communications team said the “La Semanal” will resume in January and extended holiday greetings to journalists and the public. The Presidency did not give a date in January. Monday, 6 January is Three Kings Day, a national holiday. It is likely, the next press conference will be postponed for Monday, 13 January.
