To Clara: "the cojelo suave" attitude...

Clara,

That was a funny story, the one with the pizza, even my daughter liked it because that is exactly the attitude you would get from Dominicans, el Dominicano es lo mas fresco que hay. This is my story in Samana:

Our car hit a "policia acostao" on our way to Samana, something broke in the chassis and it was making a great noise. When we got to the beach at Las Galeras we asked one of the locals if he knew a mechanic, the "motoconcho" that was dispatched to fetch the "mechanic" came back with the this "moreno" who as a tool was only carrying a plyer, which my husband identified as being the old type which dentists used to use probably 20 years ago to pull out teeth with. Of course we didn't let the guy work on the car, but we certainly had a great laugh, and still do when we remember the story!!! El tipo se la estaba "buscando"!!!

"the cojelo suave" attitude...

I'd like to share my experience ( my first!!!!!) in the DR.
I was staying in a barrio of Jarabacoa on the far side of the
river (Yaque I think) at that time the roads were all unpaved,
menos el chin del puente. Well in order to get to la Estancita
you have to go over a big steeeeeeeeeeeep hill.
We were going over this hill from la Estancita towards the pueblo and our brakes went out. We began to roll backwards and the lady driving lost control of the car, a Corolla from about 1970.
I grabbed the wheel to steer away from the cars that followed
behind us and we hit a light pole and it went flying but we still
continued on our course, towards the cliff with the river underneath!!!!
When we got almost to flat land there was a patch of "monte",
so I steered toward it. Then BooM! the car came to an immediate halt. Everyone in the car was freaking out and the front two wheels were up in the air.
I got out of the car and the owner of the land came running towards us.
It seems that he was building a "letrina" in that spot and the back two wheels fell in!!!!!!
Since that day I have no problem using the "outhouse" whenever
the need arises

I Love the DR!
