The country’s largest opposition party, the People’s Force (Fuerza del Pueblo) chose experienced legislator Rafael Tobias Crespo Perez to be its representative in the National Council of the Magistracy (CNM). The CNM is in charge of choosing officials for the higher courts. It is expected to be convened to name several judges for the Supreme Court of Justice and the members of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) this year.
The names of the 8-member CNM are the President of the Republic (Luis Abinader); the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies (Alfredo Pacheco) and the Senate (Ricardo de los Santos; a senator (Omar Fernandez – FP) and a deputy (Tobias Crespo) that represent the second majority in the legislative houses; the president of the Supreme Court of Justice (Luis Henry Molina), a judge of the Supreme Court of Justice who will serve as secretary of the Council...
