Topless bathing for women is a common practice among European tourists. Nevertheless, during my last visit to Punta Cana in September I saw very few topless women at the Catalonia resort beach area. Note that during the winter there is an increase in the number of US and Canadian tourists, that do not usually engage in topless bathing, thus I would think the 30% topless estimate is much higher than what you will find.
I don't know about "facts", but me and my husband have been to PC, and I'd say that among the European women, maybe 2 out of 5 would go topless. It is rare to see an American female go topless. That's what we witnessed.
It appears my (attempted) humour flew miles over the top of Natasha's head! Anyway......No question, there is topless sunbathing, by mostly continental european women, in PC, but I would suggest that 2/5 of all european women is a bit of an overestimate. Just my opinion.
My experience is closer to the 35% topless but I also note that most of those do it only while lying on their beach chair. Most put their tops on even to sit up. Also, it isn't uncommon even in the USA to see women untie their swimsuit tops while lying on their stomachs to prevent tan lines. It varies from resort to resort depending on the country from which the majority of the guests originate.
just back from Punta Cana the american people don't like it but the looks tell something differents. there where also american women walk topless on the beach and wear string bikini and why not if you feel good. Only when there are a lot of Dominicans give some respect and put your top on.
there is something as if one do it the more will do it also
