Touring The National Palace
I've had the enjoyment to got a privat tour in 2002 through the palace, and what I saw on the virtual tour now, it doesn;t change anything during the last 20 years. It seems they do the maintenance here at least.
Now they do some maintenance inside and out. There are videos that show the National Palace in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The facade definitely needed a coat of paint. For some reason I imagine Balaguer objecting. That old man was a pain when it came to spending money. lol
The DR itself had a very small debt when he was president in the 1970’s. Then in 1978 the PRD became the official ruling party and the taking out loans galore started then, including loans for which no one “knew” where much of the money went. It was also a mystery where the PRD politicians were getting the money for their newly acquired lavish lifestyle, particularly the PRD members at the top.
