Traffic accidents are up 29% in the Dominican Republic during the first three months of 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. According to statistics from the Ground Transport Agency (Digesett), an average of five people have died every day in traffic accidents.

The grim reality is that motorcycles are involved in 90% of fatal traffic accidents in the Dominican Republic. This year alone, there have been nearly 1,000 fatal collisions, with 578 occurring during the first three months, representing a 29% increase from 2023. In January, there were 192 fatalities, while February and March saw 179 and 207 deaths, respectively.

Most fatal accidents occur in urban areas, involving collisions, run-overs, or skids. Motorcycles are involved in around 90% of these incidents.

During the weekly trending topic panel held by the Esta Noche con Mariasela TV program, the panelists spoke about called for an end to judges ruling in favor of law-breaking motorcyclists. There is also a...

If the authorities want to end the road carnage, impound the violators. Just dreaming! Won't happen. The road chaos will continue as always.

A large proportion of the article is about unprotected "Deep excavations". While they are dangerous, I can't believe they cause nearly as many deaths as ignoring traffic signals, stupid overtaking, or bad lighting (too bright or non-existent).

Those "deep excavations" don't CAUSE the deaths, it's the morons driving the motos and other vehicles, unless such a "deep excavation" is in the middle of the road or is suddenly crossing the street. Always blaming sh*t on others and other things.

Dominicans drive badly. There is no culture on the road, no one obeys the regulations. There is no such thing as giving way or stopping at a red light. Roadworks markings are a different story, traffic lanes end suddenly, no information about speed bumps (I have the impression that everyone puts them wherever they like). Overall, there is a lot to do. I love driving, I have traveled to various countries, but I have never seen anything like the Dominican Republic. When I try to pay attention to this in my videos, all I hear is that I have to learn how to drive and everything is great here. I don't know how to comment on this.

I'm not a big Tony Robbins cult follower, but he is right on this - change takes massive action.

If the DR is not going to develop a complete and integrated highway patrol organization, not the jokes of Amet and Digesett, then this will continue on til the second coming of JC.
That said, they would also need to figure out how to stop law enforcement from taking money to look the other way 🤷‍♂️

"Dominicans drive badly" is a huge understatement.
If you want to live happy here and drive your own motorcycle or car you have to learn to adapt, can't trust anybody or anything in traffic, you need 6 pair of eyes and don't bring a firearm because at one moment you will definitely going to use it...

Geez, are you sure? Driving 30mph in the left lane of an autopista, making double lefts where there is only 1 left turn lane, motos driving on sidewalks, cutting other drivers off, and parking in the right lane seems oh so cultural.
