I am traveling to the DR for 3 months starting the 1st of December. I am trying to figure out is there only one international airport in the DR? I live in the US and was wanting to know is Miami the main city for connections to the DR?

Also I was thinking about staying in either Samana or Las Terrenas can anyone give me a comparison of the two, pros and cons?

Thanks
Mike

Re: Travel To and From DR - International airports *PIC*

See www.BocaChicaBeach.net/transport.html or click on the link below for a description of your options for arriving in the Dominican Republic from the USA.

There are at least 4 international airports that have regularly scheduled commercial flights (not charters) arriving from the USA. They are: SDQ (Santo Domingo), POP (Puerto Plata), LRM (La Romana), and PUJ (Punta Cana).

There is also a small international airport in Santiago. Other airports such as Herrera in Santo Domingo, El Portillo in Saman?, and Mar?a Montez International in Barahona are occasionally enabled for international flights but are usually used for commuter and light aircraft. I don't have the status of Arroyo Barril International Airport in Saman?.

A friend of mine...

Just punched in and found out it was cheaper to got MIA-SJU-STI, than MIA - POP! but I imagine that there are layovers and stuff that you might want to avoid.

Try and see that you get to POP and from there you can take a car to the Samana Peninsula. Samana is cool, and has some suburbs that are nice, like Las Galleras..

Have fun!

Re: A friend of mine...

New York and Miami are both the main gateways to the DR from the U.S. The closest int'l airport to Samana is in Puerto Plata (POP). Punta Cana has its own int'l airport. There are direct TWA flights from Newark to Punta Cana. I believe American only flies to Punta Cana through San Juan, Puerto Rico.
