Hi, have just joined the forum & would like some help on the best way to get from Punta Cana Airport to Cabarete. Is there a coach, what sort of prices & if we take a taxi what would the price be. We arrive at around 14:00 hrs from Gatwick.

Thanks in advance, Terence

it is a bit of a drive and if you are not strapped for cash i'd consider flying. here is the website of a dominican airline that flies from punta cana to puerta plata, which is a short taxi ride to cabarete. others will know better the time and cost of taxi/bus but if it were my vacation and i could afford to fly i would... good luck and enjoy your trip :glasses:Regular Flights

Taxi to Higuey and from there by bus

Best would be to pay some more and go to Puerto Plata.
2nd best to go from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata by air.
If you really think it is worth to loose 1 day to save little money I suggest the following.
Take a taxi from the airport to the Higuey. Ask the taxi driver to bring you to the bus terminal for busses to Santo Domingo.
You could save a little money by going with a minibus, but if you are new to the Dom. Rep. or do not speak the language or have more luggage I would not recommend this. The minibuses depart within walking distance and you have to ask someone from where.
From Higuey ask for a bus to bring you nearest to the Bus Terminal of Caribe Tours. The station is called "27 de febrero" and everyone knows where it is.
Ask for an "express bus" to Santo Domingo that does not stop so often. From the bus terminal in Santo Domingo take a taxi to Caribe Tours (cheap).
The last bus to Sosua (10 km before Caberete) goes at 7 p.m and arrives about 4:45 later. From there take a taxi.
The bus makes one short break in Santiago to buy food for about 10 minutes.

If you arrive at 14:00 you might make it to Cabarete the same day.
But if your plane is late you will need to add the cost for one night in a hotel. I would recommend to stay in a hotel near the airport (ask for a budget hotel, will not be too expensive but not exactly cheap) if you do not know where to go in Santo Domingo.

Hope that helps

PC to Cabarete

Wow, this is a long trip. By car around 7:30 hours. The cheapest way to make this trip is by bus. The next is to rent a car. Rent Car is also the riskiest as you do not know the route.
The last time I had a taxi bring things from Sosua to Punta Cana the taxi was 300 us. It could be more now.
The best is to fly on SAP / Take Off travel. The last time I flew they had a evening flight from PUJ to POP. There schedule is on their web site. If I were you I would check out the air schedule and prices as this is the fastest way IF you can make that flight. The taxi from POP airport to Cabarete is around 30 us.
Have a good Trip !

Thanks for all the info everyone.

There are just two of us with rucksacks so have no problem getting the bus even if it takes a couple of days.

damn, that is a trek... You might think of doing a night in Punta Cana and then start out early the next morning? The jet lag is going to be rough...

Bavaro Express from Punta Cana to Santo Domingo and Caribe Tours or Metro from Santo Domingo to Sosua are both on large. modern, comfortable buses. The total without taxis is about $20 usd (the taxi in SD to either Metro or Caribe Tours should be less than $6), and you should have no problem sleeping - or checking out the scenery - especially the SD-Sosua route...it's very scenic. Small tip - Metro makes a few less stops than Caribe Tours...
