Hey!

My kid wants to be a truck driver. He has talked about it for a year now. Is there a school in SD that I can talk to? I didn't find anything with a google search in Spanish.

He will be 18 in March. He is Haitian and doesn't have any legal paperwork except a Haitian passport. Without a cedula, can he get a driver's license? I'm concerned about paying for a school and it not being any good because no one can/will hire him.

What about age? In the USA for insurance reasons, 25 is the age limit, not 18. I don't know if it's the same here. I would ask the school, assuming we find one, but I'm afraid they will tell me whatever I want to hear to get my $.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

First step is to get all his Haitian documents to date (like passport, etc), and then apply for a DR visa based on student status to enter, study and reside in the DR legally.

This will enable him to gain a cédula from JCE and to carry on his schooling.

Using that as a first step, he can then file to obtain residency in the DR as a contract employee with a company here. This will enable him to work and reside in the DR 100% legally.

These steps will need your cooperation at each level as a guarantor.

Obtaining a commercial truck driver license in the DR is a lengthy process, which first requires him to obtain a regular driver license and certain amount of years before he can apply to level up his license to drive a commercial vehicle like a truck.

Unlike other foreigners, Haitians pay the same tuition rate as Dominicans do.

He’s young and obtaining an education should be the first step before anything else.

Sorry no residence= no cedula= no driving licence for all foreigners. Maybe exceptions for Haitians/students as I just saw the thread posted by Pichardo but still comes down to need cedula first.
