The UK government has placed Dominican Republic on the "red list" which means that nobody who has been in Dominican Republic in the last 10 days will be allowed to enter the UK unless they are a UK national or have residency. So if a US national for example had recently been to DR they would not be allowed to enter. Brits who return from Dom Rep are forced to pay £1,750 per adult for a 11 night stay in a hotel where they are only allowed out of their rooms for 1 hour a day. This is due to the rise in Covid cases in DR. Haiti has also been put on the list. The red list is reviewed every 3 weeks, but so far none of the countries on the red list have come off the list, so it may be quite a while before we see British tourism return to DR.

And in a tit-for-tat response, the DR has added the UK to the list of countries that need to provide a negative PCR test in order to enter the DR.

This is political nonsense, nothing else. How can a country that has had the least covid related deaths per capita and the best vaccination rate in Latin America end up on the UK's red list?

Perhaps because of Sinovac being used?

Just a guess.

I think maybe because of Haiti? It is strange as a lot of other Caribbean countries have gone onto the green list.

Because of unrational paranoia.

That reminds be of a joke -
Little Johnny was asked to define paranoia by his teacher.
He said that's easy.
The other day at the restaurant the waitress bent over and her breasts hit my my dad in the face.
So then she he said to my father : "Excuse me sir, does my paranoia ? "

The UK's move can be a blessing in disguise for the DR.

Yet Johnson welcomed crowds at Wembley for UEFA cup.

Fans have been urged not to travel to Italy to watch England’s Euro 2020 quarter final clash with Ukraine as coronavirus restrictions mean those who were lucky in the ballot cannot use their tickets.

Downing Street said that people should not be travelling to amber list countries such as Italy and urged fans to follow the rules.
