Uk driving licence

I have a full UK driving licence - how long is it valid for use here?

My Residency application is in progress but I have a Temp Res. Visa registered in the UK until the end of this month - can I apply for a DR licence now or do I have to wait until I have the i year Residency from S.Domingo?

P.S. I have full comprehensive motor insurance but want to make sure I am covered as a driver.

well you need to apply for residency first and than you can get a driving license from here, because i have the same problem, but you can use your uk driving license for 3 months from the date you arrive in dominican republic.

Thanks - I'm in process of lodging my residency - had the tests, done the fingerprints etc - what I'm unsure about is whether I need to wait till it's completed - anecdotally some people wait months to get the OK so the 3 months is a bit academic if I can't get it completed by the 3 month cut-off.........
