The UK gov has issued a deadline for those that are behind on NI contributions. You need 35 full contributing years to qualify for a full state pension. Some UK expats that live and work abroad may have not contributed enough to make up the shortfall. By making a one off payment you can catch up on those missed years at a very low cost.

However, this deal ends on 5th Apr this year.

When I checked on mine, I was 14 years short. It cost me £820 to make up for those 14 years.
