I've just moved to the Dominican Republic for 4 months from the ?K and have forgotten to bring something very important :S

Does anyone know where I might find an electric socket adapter from the UK 3 pins to the Dominican system?

Thanks for your help-

Have you tried Americana Por Departamentos on Av JF Kennedy or Mega Centro (Santo Domingo)? I think I saw the adapters being sold there.

Silly question I am sure but ............ does the item you intend using on a UK three pinned plug WORK off 110 volt? Do you need the adapter to be a voltage transformer (up) too?

If the answer to the question is "Yes Of Course it will work on 110 volt" just cut off the 220 volt plug & fit a standard 110 v plug suitable for US & Dominican electrical circuits!:chinese:
DO NOT CUT OFF THE PLUG IF YOU ARE NOT SURE WHETHER THE ITEM WILL WORK ON 119 volts!:cheeky:!:surprised!

THESE TRANSFORMERS ONLY WORK WITH LOW AMPERAGE UNITS (hairdryers, MP3s, iPods etc NOT computers & vacuum cleaners!!!)

Voltage UP transformers are available on eBay UK & cost about ?6 to ?10. You then need a friend to come visiting so that they can bring it (or them) over for you. ~ Grahame.

I recently bought three of these from:-

Choiceful.com: Online Shopping for Home and Garden, Kitchen and Cookware, Outdoor Leisure, Building and DIY & more

at a very reasonable price in the UK. However, as Grahame says, they only work on electrical items up to 45W.

If your items will work on 110V then follow Grahame's advice and replace the plugs with US/Dominican style ones.
