Soon we will be going to the DR for a little relaxing time and I was wondering about this resort.

This resort is very highly recomemded by a good friend of mine in the DR.

I sent a PM to a member who lives in La Romana and I asked about The Wyndham and the Venta Club Dominicus and the member replied to me that the Venta Club was better, or that it was preferred.

Has anybody stayed there?.

Give me your insights!.

Gracias!

They are on the same beach. Have stayed at both. Enjoyed both. The advantage of the Wyndham is that you have more restaurants to choose from, especially if you choose the Palace (then you get two hotels for the price of one). Also, the Viva Wyndham Palace is built right on the best part of the La Laguna Dominicus beach. Of course you can walk there from the Venta.

One of my favourtie resorts. Some of the cheaper rooms in the Wyndham "Beach" are not that great but the resort overall is one of the best in the country imo. The rooms in the Wyndham "Palace" (as I recall it was called) seemed better.

PlantaFull, is that true? I stayed at the cheaper of the two Wyndham AIs, before it was part of Wyndham, and I enjoyed it but I didnt know I was getting "one of the best in the country". Know how much I paid? 35 bucks US a night. Ha! It was cheaper back then (not all that long ago, actually, a couple years no more), and I was paying Dominican rates.

I liked the beach very much and I took a cabana at the farthest end from the main campus. The pizza was excellent, the food generally quite good, the high end restaurant was a very nice place to eat, though I didnt think the food was any better, and the disco back then was a little disappointing, but I didnt mind as I wasnt there for the disco.

The reason I consider it one of the best is because of the bayahibe beach, the way the hotel is layed out, the food and the fact that Bayahibe is not as old and overcrowded. On the other hand, I just came back form Playa Dorada "Occidental Allegro Playa Dorada" (Puerto Plata). A total disaster. 600 or more people feeding off a buffet made for 100 people max, pina colada mixers didn't work and lots of security guys checking guests' armwrists all the time to see if they are in the right resort.

Looks like the price more then doubled in the meantime, rates are now close to 90$. The pizza is the best in the country imo, at least in terms of "euro-style" pizza.

Thanks Dolores. Now I can breath a little better since I booked the Venta Club but still wanted some feedbacks.

But as always, and since I let nothing ruin my vacations, I booked it with the understading that if we don't like it, I would just go to the next one.

Thanks again!.

Good point PlantaFULL. I dont hvae much experience with AIs so I couldnt compare it with much else. the other you describe sounds awful.

Well, Then Miguel, there you have it. Looks like you are in for a good time. If you pass through the capital, give us a ring.

"Pass through the Capital, are you kidding me?.

Man, I am a "Capital boy". I can't never, EVER be in the DR and not go to the Capital. I stay true to my "roots". Few family but many great, great friends.

When I started going back to the DR, back in the early 80's, I did it ALL. I did the every day discos(back then I never touched any type of alcohol, not that I am an alcoholic now, lol), the almost every day beach day, the sleeping about 4 hours per day, the visiting many parts of the country. The resorts. Man, I tell you, everyday was a Saturday for me and my buddies. My "base" was the Capital. Now:

My vacations have a little less "noise". When I go with my g/f, we stay at resorts but I make sure that I am always there 2 or 3 days before she gets there so I can take care of some personal businesses and I also make sure to leave 3 or 4 days after she leaves so I can leave all my personal businesses in order. But in between all that, we take a few days to spend time with my loved ones. Like my buddy Ramon says: "no matter how far from the Capital you are, all it takes is a phone call and I would go get your brother, get Mayra, get mom Elena and Tony and within hours, we will be there.

That said, I will be in the Capital 2 days and then "get lost" for 4 days and then I will be back in the Capital for my last 4 days in the country.

Of course that I will give you a ring. You have proven to me, with your behind the scenes help, that you are a good person, unlike AZB, hehehehe!..

And btw, I have a CD to CD recorder (I hate computer downloads, they do not sound the same, IMO) so I am doing some SALSA compilations that will knock your socks off!.

Venta Club Gran Dominicus is a GREAT RESORT, at least in my eyes.

If you care to know more about this resort, check my thread on the "Trip Report Forum". But just keep in mind that just because I liked it does not mean that you will like it also. As they say "cada cabeza es un mundo".
