Someone who has a handle on the vernacular could help me with this. What is (are) the common term (s) used to describe the covered attachment to a dominicano house?

I mean the area that's outside at ground level, but undercover and where much of the living goes on in the DR family household.

Galeria normally. Where I live they use the word patio for the garden at the back of the house.

Maybe marquesina.... like a front porch? The one we have in the back they call a terrazza - I call it a covered patio :bunny:

Marquesina is carport
Galer?a, as Matilda said, is porch
Terraza is a terrace but is also used for a gazebo-type structure. Enramada is also a common word for this sort of structure, especially in rural areas.
Balc?n is a balcony

Thanks for the correction Chiri - the front porch of our house wraps around the side of the house into a carport, all on one level, which is probably/maybe why they call the whole thing a marquesina where we live????
