Visa/Requirements for Haiti?

I'm in the midst of organising a trip to Haiti for me and a few friends.
I have gone through the archives and done searches in regards to this and have not found the information I need.

We're all from different countries, all currently in the DR.
My question is, are there any visa/legal requirements for (1) American (2) South African (3) Dominican (4) Belgiun (sp?) (5) French citizens to enter Haiti? And are there any requirements to enter the DR on the return?
A Haitian friend of mine says all that's nesseccary is for us each to buy a 'tourist card'. If so, what is the cost involved?

To The Best of My Knowledge...

To the best of my knowledge and according to the department of state the following applies:

Citizens (including business persons) of the following countries do not require a visitor visa for admission to Haiti:
Argentina
Canada
U.S.A


All Citizens of other countries (including business persons) require a visitor visa for admission and transit to Haiti.

To get a visa, the department of state says:

Documentation
Required for
Application for
a Visitor Visa A visitor seeking entry to Haiti is required to establish to the satisfaction of the immigration officer identity and purpose of entry. All persons require a passport to enter to Haiti.
A valid passport (recommend a minimum of six months validity beyond intended stay)
Application form
1 passport-sized photograph
Return airline ticket or travel itinerary as proof of onward travel


Method of
Lodgement Application for a visitor visa must be made at Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy). Visas can also be issued on arrival, but enquired at Consulate before leaving. Applicants are required to lodge their visa applications personally. Nonetheless in some countries applications by mail will be allowed, for that purpose a stamped self-addressed envelope is required.

Processing time


Multiple Entry
Visa

Haiti issues Single-entry; Multiple-entry (up to 3 and 6 months).


Validity/Extension

3 months for Single-entry visas and 3 or 6 months for Multiple-entry visas.

Cost of Visa Application

The fee is US$25


So it seems as though the Americans and Canadians will have no problem, but everyone else might. Of course the Department of Stated could be completely wrong and I just pasted all this for nothing, but generally they are usually very close to correct.

What does that mean?! It sounds as if the 'tourist card' that my friend spoke about was a visa issued at the border. He said it cost $30 US

If you are french, swiss or american, just show up at the border with a valid passport. 25 gourdes are the entry fee, and 10 US$ is the departure tax (these infos are from Dajabon/Ouanaminthe)...
No visa whatsoever... Enjoy !!!

Thanks again Squat, problem is that only 2 or 3 of us are US citizens, no Sweeds .... possibly a French guy. I'll call the contact that HB gave me - maybe he can help out.

It looks like only 4 countries are required to have special visas:

- Chine Populair
- Colombie
- R?publique Dominicaine
- Panama

I think for the rest its the "tourist card" system.

Great, thanks Adrian - looks like we'll have to get a 'special' visa for Alba. I'm sure they'll issue all the other visas at the border too. I'll be sending the info about the trip out tomorrow during the day. This is going to be an adventure ......

Americans does not need a visa to enter Haiti same for France, South Africa and Belgium, but Dominicans needs a tourist visa to enter Haiti. When leaving Haiti you need to pay US$30.00 departure tax.
Well, if you are an American you won't need a tourist visa to re-enter the Dominican Republic but I don't know about your friends if they'll need visas.

AAHHHhh, taxes, yesss

Remember you have to pay the $US 20.00 departure tax to leave the DR....Even at the border!! And if non-residents, you have to get a new tourist card when you come back in to the DR...
