Water bottling companies in the Dominican Republic have agreed to take measures within 90 days to ensure that their products are shielded from direct sunlight. The move to protect public health was announced in a press release by the National Institute for Consumer Rights Protection (Pro Consumidor).

A recent news story in Listin Diario highlighted the wealth of evidence that supports a direct cause-and-effect link between people’s health and the toxic chemical additives in plastics that can be released if the bottles are left in direct sun contact.

The agreement was reached following separate meetings between Pro Consumidor director Eddy Alcántara and executives from various water bottling associations and companies.

Alcántara emphasized that the measure will be enforced at all stages of the water bottling process, from production and transportation to retail.

There was an edict on this 2 years prior, and I saw only one place but a tin cover over it bottle storage, even though sunlight came in from the sides

This is a catastrophic health finding. More harmful than diabetes, obesity, alcoholism and moto riding combined. Bottled rum is the answer!

Like we said before If the full Bottles would just be ROTATED it would solve 90% of the problem..
Put a sell by date on them which cant be removed , is another idea.

These people cant even find the " North side" of a building , never mind putting a shade cover over it. Its as if the Movement of the Sun is a complete mystery to them .

The woman who ran the local colmado has unfortunately passed away, but one of my favorite memories is when she would wipe off the water bottle with the same rag that she used to wipe the chicken blood and guts off the wood counter.

The guy who used to sell chicharrón in Charamicos was the best lol, he'd be cutting the chicharrón with his machete, a street dog would come around the stand and the guy would hit the dog with the same machete he's cutting the meat with (not to hurt the dog just to chase him away), nobody said nothing they just kept waiting in line 😁

The first sentence says it all. Water bottling companies took initiative themselves. And remember who owns the market: Planeta Azul and Crystal (both owned by 2 of the richest families) and small companies will follow the lead.

Pretty simple really. I wonder why other places don't do something like that. Too mean to pay for a tarp?
Most colmados and convenience stores lack of proper admin for stocking and proper hygine (and authorities even reinforce the basic rules on this). I even myself avoid buying in colmados (only water bottles) just because of this.

This is great theater! lol..They are wearing masks and rubber gloves while inspecting water bottles. Why not go with full hazmat suits. Even the P.D officer has a mask on. What about sugar drinks in plastic bottles? I guess they are safe, even though they are a huge contributor to obesity. Talk about misplaced resources.
