The acquisition of 150 electric buses for the National Student Transport System (TRAE) in Santiago has become a clear example of a lack of strategic planning.
Although the initiative seeks to promote sustainable mobility, more than half of the buses remain inoperative due to the absence of their own charging stations, an essential component for their efficient operation. Of the 150 vehicles acquired, only 60 are in circulation, thanks to temporary agreements with private stations located in places such as the National Supermarket, Banco Popular and the Fernando Valerio Fortress. Without these external solutions, most of the fleet would be completely paralyzed.
The regional director of Education, Marieta Díaz, acknowledged that the Ministry of Education does not have the necessary infrastructure to recharge the units, which has forced the authorities to rely on improvised alternatives. Author: Omar Francisco Santana
