Genius marking plan...everyone is feeling warm and fuzzy and it only cost west jet a fraction of what it would have cost them with tv or paper advertising...

That is the most effective marketing ever. God forbid you don't run an add on a major network that the consumer pays for.

That is the most racist move I have ever seen. What about the Jews that don't believe in Santa or the Muslims that aren't even allowed to fly at all. I hope someone sues them for pulling that stunt...

it was very good but i would not kid myself that it was not thought of by a highly paid marketing team. still, much better than a simple TV commercial. great job. :)

Really Boknows? Really? I'm pretty darn sure if there were any Jews/Muslims/other non Christians on that flight that they would have happily accepted Westjet's gifts. They were always happy to receive their Christmas bonuses & time off whether they observed Christmas or not at the office I worked in. I'm also pretty darn sure Muslims can fly, or else how did so many end up in Canada?
Marketing ploy? no doubt. But at least a feel good one - & the ones that did the work volunteered their time.
Merry Christmas to all the regular posters who have provided me with great insight/info re DR. We only visit (north coast) so I seldom have much to contribute but I appreciate all the things I've learned from reading your posts.
Sorry, Boknows really rattled my cage.

If you look on westjet channel on YB, VP speaks about this...(video called westjet christmas, why?)
They have been working on it since August, so you are right, it was not spur-of-the-moment thingie...

Who cares that it was planned, of course it was planned, and of course that it was an advertising stunt, but I ask you, did you feel good watching it? I know I for sure did

My whole department shed a few tears. We were all joking that the guy that asked for socks and underwear must really be kicking himself in the ass!! lol

Marketing ploy? Definitely. I wish more companies did the same!!

it is a marketing ploy and it was a good one. i enjoyed watching this. more companies should go into this type of campaigns. they are doing well for their company and the clients/recipients are super happy. what more could you want?
