As I'm constantly reminded that my not living in the DR "24/7" disqualifies me, I take back my definition of chota.
I must've been smoking something when I thought of chota meaning snitch?
My English not being good enough, coupled with my less-than-24/7 DR living, adds up to disaster: I must be going mute.

Well, regardless of what Wiki says (police), this is still DR1. So, if you want to know what chota means in Argentina, police it is. Ditto for Ecuador, Colombia maybe, and the entire non-Dominican world. Maybe. But this is DR1, AND in the Caribbean, chota means snitch: alguien quien delata.
No Merriam-Webster's and no amount of 24/7 living will ever change that.
I tried to find anyone here who knew the word "chota" without success.

sorry guys i guess i didn't think of that.... actually i wanted to know what it would mean in mexico... but this is the only site that i can find that people actually respond to...
i saw a little girl described as la china but i didnt think that was the meaning of the word so i was confused. and i also saw a woman described as la chota but i am assuming this was some kind of inside joke between her and the person calling her that.
