Altos de Chavon - although that is part of CdC. Bayahibe? Cueva de las Maravillas?

The caves & bayahibe are on opposite sides of La Romana, but the caves only take about 30 minutes to go on the entire tour and there isn't really much else to do at this site (but a good experience don't get me wrong).

But I wouldn't miss Bayahibe, I LOVE it there. Cute local town, lots of shops, restaurants & a fun local beach as well. Not sure you can fit it all in but you can give it a whirl!!

I second Bayahibe, really nice, quiet town and beautiful beaches! definately worth a visit. if i remember correctly they have little boat excursions that leave from the town itself i think going to Saona island....i just sit at the bars by the water and enjoy the breeze! :)

I'm a fan of Bayahibe too. If you have the time, you could do one of the half day boat trips, like to Catalina Island, and then have half a day in town walking around, getting some food and drink and feeling like you'd seen a century old Dominican fishing village/booming tourist destination. I have a couple of hundred pictures of my stay there in January posted at Webshots-Grand Opening Special: Enter code SAVE25 at checkout and save 25% on your order! (Ignore the banner here stating 25% off...if you click you're taken directly into the album.)

If you want to see some history while enjoying beach time and cervezas in Bayahibe, you can take a walk out to the point by the embarkation beach to where an outdoor museum has been set up at the site of the oldest discovered civilization in the Caribbean (dating to 2000 BC). You'll see some great views and the Rose of Bayahibe, a plant found only on this point (but now transplanted to the resort hotels in the area to keep it prospering). I have pictures of that posted at Webshots-Grand Opening Special: Enter code SAVE25 at checkout and save 25% on your order!

I know that some cruisers were able to book a tour to Catalina Island with Seavis Bayahibe in January that catered to their hours in port, leaving the beach in Bayahibe at 8:30 a.m. and returning by 1:30 p.m. You can possibly arrange something similar.

There is also a public beach at the Dominicus townsite. It hasn't the benefit of Bayahibe nearby and I think the beach is smaller, but it's still beautiful and might be an option for you.

Bayahibe v. Cuevas...Why?

While I REALLY loved the cave tour at Cuevas de las Maravillas, a day at Bayahibe can't be beat. But why not do both? It is less than a one hour drive between the two sites. If you traveling by bus I would only go to one, but if you will have a car...see both. 60-90 minutes at the cave and then on to the beach in the afternoon. Bayahibe is beautiful and a great place to chill. There are a lot of locals at the public beach so you can meet some very nice people. Not that I don't like tourists but it is not the same a being with the locals.

Have fun.
