The question on everyone’s minds is what were two lions doing in a house in Cupey, Altamira municipality in Puerto Plata? Their presence was made public after they escaped from their cages raising the concern of the neighbors.
As reported in Diario Libre, the lions escaped when a Haitian care keeper inadvertently left their cage open after feeding. The lions went on a feast of ducks in the exotic animal farm before being recaptured. No humans were harmed.
Diario Libre reports staff from the Biodiversity Division of the Ministry of Environment and veterinarians and staff from the National Zoo (Zoodom) traveled to the site from Santo Domingo to participate in the capture. The lions were taken to the National Zoo Rescue Center (Zoodom) in Santo Domingo.
