I particularly like water falls, where is the best place to go to swim below and see nice waterfalls. My wife is actually from La Vega, but she has not had to opportunity to really travel around her country. We will be doing that for a couple of weeks in September. Where is the best places to go.

There several waterfall near Jarabacoa which is a short drive from La Vega but the water isn't paticularly clean but their worth going to anyways because of the location. The waterfalls el limon near Samana is more beautiful and better for swimming. If you go to Jarabacoa and ask the locals, like Gunnar they can direct you to smaller but clean waterfalls.b Good luck.

Yepp. Jimenoa is 'traditional', but, as Rob says, not extremely
clean. Higher up, in la Guasara, you can drink the water you
swim in, with no bad effects...takes a little effort to get
there, but it's sure worthwhile! (We go there to relax, and
fetch drinking water at the same time!)

We dont have to have anything near La Vega, we will be staying at her mom's home in Santo Domingo, but we are looking for the best clean, swimmable, waterfalls, anywhere in DR. We are going to do some serious traveling around the country.

Too many years ago..

I went to a beautiful little waterfall near Santiago Rodriguez. I haven't been back but the memory of all the fun we had still lingers. There is a falls in San Jose de las Matas.
Be sure to take pictures!
The 110+ pictures below have made an impression world-wide...

Re: Need info on Jarabacoa, please!!

Hi Gunnar,
Im going to DR this coming Saturday for 10 days vacation. I will like to visit Jarabacoa, since I've never been there. Can you please give me some info as far as where to stay for about 5 people..($moderate), points of interest, etc.
I'll be coming from Cabrera,Nagua (my birth town), I guess I'll take main road (Duarte Hwy) to get there?
I'll appreciate any info/tips.
Thanks,
Felicita

Re: Need info on Jarabacoa, please!!

Hi Felicita,
I was in DR in May, and we spent a few days in Jarabacoa. We tried to stay at the Rancho Baiguate which is supposed to be the best place to stay, but it was full. So we stayed at their hotel, Pinar Dorada which is very, very nice, but pricey. There were not very many options in Jarabacoa. Pinar had air conditioning, a restaurant with good food, pool, beautiful grounds, clean and comfortable rooms. Also, any tours to the waterfalls or other mountain activities will pick you up at the hotel.
Good luck and enjoy the beatiful area.

Re: Need info on Jarabacoa, please!!

It all depends on your demands and preferences. We have good,
decent hotels for less than 200.-/night - if you don't insist
on AC, mini-bar etc.
North of la Vega on autopista Duarte, there's an exit towards
'la zona'. Take off there, pass the gas-station, la zona,
and just continue. It goes up. And up. And up.
Before you know it, you're in Jarabacoa!
