I assume this is the best place to post this.

I want to just purchase a basic queen size bed nothing fancy . I had someone that is in San Cristobal quote some prices and they were just plain out rageous . So I just wonder will the prices be a lot better in a much bigger city like Santo Domingo.

Moved to Santo Domingo forum.

Did you check La Sirena in San Cristobal? We bought a nice pillowtop mattress from F&L [they have several locations around San Cristobal Province] for a good price.

If you are talking about the frame? there are basic wooden, pine ones, made here with two drawers, for about $3000 pesos

find them along Duarte, I would think

Also the local made mattresses are about the same price.

Check at Pricesmart. Not the cheapest but good mattress's that will last a long time. Ikea has some good mattress's too and have had one now for 4 years and need no box spring. Mauricio is correct, DO NOT GET THE WOOD WET... lol If your looking at the lowest price, no idea and you get what you pay for really. Bought a set of bunkbeds at Plaza Lama and the mattress's were not good. Sleep is not something to buy a cheap mattress for, good luck and sleep well.

When you say, "BED" do you mean both the "base/frame", AND mattress?
"Pine",..or "Caoba"???????
Also what is your budget?????
How can we respond without knowing what you can spend????

bedding is recycled in the DR. If you try to find a very reasonable bed you may be on a reconditioned mattress. There are many ways to save money but good beds are expensive and its money well spent. I just bought a set of silk sheets for our new bed. Now that is sleeping. Never will go back to sleeping on cotton sheets. Made it an anniversary present for the wife and it worked out just fine for me too.

I bought a Sealy mattress here about 10 years ago for about $500, and knew that I would have to replace the old mattress in the old apartment when I moved out. So that is how I know that you can get a new, (well, seems new) Dominican made mattress for around 3000 pesos as I bought one a year ago.. but I agree with others, I would invest in a good mattress if I were going to be here.

As for Ikea.. WHY? if you can get a locally made one of solid wood for such a cheap price?
