Can someone pls. tell me why it's so hard to find Mantecado ice cream nowadays??? I remember when the guy with the push cart would come around, ring his bell, and I run down to buy my Mantecado popsicle. Needless to say he doesnt come around anymore. Niether does the guy with the hot pasteles in the hoya but that's another story. My gripe is that just about every ice cream shop I walk into proclaims to have Mantecado but it's really just plain vanilla. What's that all about?? Why have they changed? Am I the only person who thinks Mantecado beats vanilla 100X over? I like Hagen Daz as much as the next guy but when you mess with something as delicious, delectable, heavenly, and just plain yummy as Mantecado there's really something wrong and it bugs the hell out of me! My only consolation is that some Helados Bon shops still serve it but it's only a few and even they are succumbing to the Vanilla Craze.
