Of course they will. DR doesn't have those tarrifs and doesn't even tax Chinese imports except at 1%.
And Dominicans and Haitians are addicted to that crap so yeah there will be cheap plastic products ready to break as soon as you get them home for years to come.

Orders of imports to the US are already cancelled (amazon etc.) and China is active to improve trade relations with countries around the globe.
Examples:
Xi Jinping just met with the Spanish Prime minister.
Seniour Europiean Union officials will visit China in July.

As factories can not be shut down from one day to the other, even in China, when there is hope that trade relations with the US improve short term, expect Chinese products to be dumped.

Expect Sto. Dgo. to be flooded with products like never before and prices to be at an all time low (in relation to income).
The shops will survive and profit from the situation. There might pop up a lot more.

God help us - no more cheapie-cheapie stores.
Even when I lived in San Francisco many decades ago they littered the city selling obviously poor knockoffs that fooled no one.
I haven't noticed them in Santo Domingo but I'm sure there are plenty there toom

I cringe every time we pass one of those stores and tell my husband "just what this country needs more cheap junk that people will throw away within days, weeks''. There seem to be more of them everywhere.

I think the OP's question is easily answered...yes! I've only been in those stores here in POP a few times, and tbh I don't remember if I bought anything. I guess for inexpensive kitchen items or maybe beauty products (my lady friend buys some stuff in one of those stores), they serve a purpose. Me, I'd rather just buy the plastic stuff in Jumbo rather than go way further in town to save a few pesos.

Yes 100%
Besides they have enough goods warehoused here already to get them thru any trade war should one ever arise with the DR (which it will not)
