I am a Bank of America customer but in my short stay in La Romana I would like to be able to withdraw funds from my account. Is that possible or do you ladies and gents have other recommendations such as travelers checks...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Scotiabank Rep?blica Dominicana - Sucursales Zona Este y Sur

Try and find a Scotia Bank ATM in La Romana, Bank of America allows free ATM usage, call Bank of America and tell them you are going, they will turn off the card after one use otherwise.

Bring a few hundred USD, travelers cheques are a P.I.T.A., good as back up... I guess!

I do it all the time. I suggest using BHD's ATM machines, since the above ref bank is BOAs correspondent bank in the DR. However, maximum amount is US$500/day.

You will be charged $5/withdrawal at any bank other than ScotiaBank!

If you are concerned about using the ATM machine, go to the teller with the card.

A question: If I withdraw at a teller, what is the maximum limit? Is it the same as daily ATM withdrawal limit? Or better to say, you guys that did the withdrawal at teller using your Check/Debit Cards, were you able to withdraw more in a day than you would otherwise be able to withdraw at an ATM?
My WAMU account allows me free ATM withdrawals anywhere, but there's US$ 500 daily limit.

Is the fee you refer to something that Bank of America charges on their end in the US if you don't use Scotia Bank?

Yes, If I use the card @ Scotia Bank I am not assessed a fee by B of A, I am charged $5 if I use BP for example.

You're excused ;-). BHD (Banco Hipotecario Dominicano) is the fourth or fifth largest bank in the DR. Here's their homepage...

Banco BHD

Sorry to hijack, but I may say Banco BHD (quite redundant huh) is already the second largest private bank behind Banco Popular and of course Banco de Reservas which is owned by the government.
