Had these for breakfast and in soups. Kind of like butternut, but denser. They grow wild in vacant lots...

I also had yautia several times, I think for 30 peso a pound from a truck. Seemed kinda pricey for a root veggie. The only thing good I can say about it is it isn't as bad as yucca...
I'm the opposite - I think yaut?a is vile and yuca is delicious.
How is yucca cooked correctly so it is delicious? Yucca and all recipes with green plantains are on my non-food items list.
Auyama has its place.

Boiled plantains are also in my "no fly zone"...
I'm sure Chiri will chime in here, but yuca is one of my favorite foods. First of all, you need to be sure it's young and fresh. "Yuca de aqua tibia".
I *love* it in soups [chicken soup, sancocho, etc.]. If I just boil it, in salted water, while it's cooking I saute onions in a bit of good olive oil, and then after I put the yuca in a serving dish I pour the onions & olive oil over it. My all time favorite Dominican food are arepita de yuca, they are like catnip to me.
I love empanadas made with yuca instead of flour. I love bolitas de yuca with cheese inside.
I guess you get the idea - I love yuca.
Yuck, I agree.
Now, if you mash them into mangu with olive oil or butter, salt, etc., and top with fried eggs and some sauteed onions........
