I'm now investigating about boxing in Dom. Rep. I have read before a head line of DR One Dairy News (date: May 17th, 1999) which has described a domincan world champion of WBA's mediun weight. But I have looked up on the champions in a boxing magazine that gives the rankings of all categories, and I culdn't find the name of Julio Cesar Green as WBA's medium weigth champion.

Please someone tell me if Julio Cesar Green is a world champion in Dom. Rep. Is boxing popular sport there? I appreciate if you tell me anything about this.

Joan Guzman won a gold medal in the Argentina Pan Am Games (1995), but this year's boxing team did poorly at the Pan Am Games. Boxing is popular, but not that much. The government built a large boxing arena, but it has been rarely used.

Julio Cesar Green (25-3, 17 KOs), from the Bronx, N.Y., by way of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, became the Interim WBA Middleweight Champion and mandatory challenger for Joppy by virtue of his ninth-round stoppage over former top-ranked contender Darren Obah on Feb. 20, 1999, at Madison Square Garden in New York. "The Big Apple" has been kind to its adopted son, as MSG also was the site for Green's title-winning victory over Joppy on Aug. 23, 1997. Green survived two third-round knockdowns by Joppy, en route to a unanimous decision victory in front of his hometown fans. In his last bout, Green posted a 10-round victory over Jerry Williams on May 15.
