Caribbean Village Playa Grande wins British tourism award

Allegro Resorts, a Dominican-based hotel chain, was proud to announce that it has received four Thomson Golden Awards in 1995 in the category “best faraway shores accommodation.” Thomson’s from Britain is the world’s largest tour operator. The first place was won by Caribbean Village in Playa Grande, a 300-room hotel, the first large hotel built in the area of Playa Grande beach, considered one of the best on the North Coast.

Also receiving awards in this category were the Caribbean Village Bavaro, on the East Coast of the country, placed fifth, and the Caribbean Village Club on the green in Playa Dorada, which was sixth. A Mexican hotel operated by the chain, the Caribbean Village Cancún came in eighth. Allegro’s president is Alberto del Pino, and it has established a reputation as the hotel chain with the largest growth in the all-inclusive category. The group operates 24 hotels of which 10 are in the Dominican Republic, seven in Mexico, three in Venezuela and one in the Bahamas.
