The National Senate is inviting the general public to sessions to hear various opinions on a bill that would establish a national open sky aviation policy. The Senate is proposing a bill that would allow all airlines to fly to the Dominican Republic under the understanding that the increase in seats would bring an increase in visitors. “The massive arrival of tourists to the Dominican Republic requires an open skies policy based on principles of freedom of entry to the Dominican market, freedom of tariffs, free determination of airlines that would like to fly to Dominican airports and total freedom for segments of fifth liberty to be granted to airlines.”
The bill also states that the arrival of more airlines and an increase in the number of seats, together with the promotion of tourism within a regime of a free market would permit services and rates in line with the objectives that will benefit the national economy.
The open skies bill is being promoted by senators from the Partido Revolucionario Social Cristiano (PRSC) bloc, Miguel Berroa (Hato Mayor), Francisco Rosario Martínez (La Romana), Julio de Beras (El Seibo), Fulvio Lora (Duarte) y Rafael Silverio (Puerto Plata). The bill also has the support of the Santiago Rodríguez senator for the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD), Dario Gómez Martínez.
