Pan American plans a comeback to the aviation industry. The bankruptcy and termination of the airline some four years ago surprised all, as it was considered the flag carrier of the U.S. and provided one of the best airline services around the world. The airline would be based in Miami and would fly to five principal international airports in the U.S. The airline would use a fleet of leased Airbus A-300s and would fly to Miami, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. Behind the proposed resurrection are Chuck Cobb, a former ambassador of the U.S. in Iceland and Martin Shugrue, Pan American president for 20 years.
Pan Am was seriously affected when a jury determined in July 1992 that the airline did not comply with all the normal security standards, which resulted in a terrorist’s bomb destroying a Pan Am aircraft when flying over Scotland.
